Why Wyrm Castings?

We want you to be as confident as we are about why using Wyrm Castings is so great. We have listed information and links below to help you understand why our natural, organic soil amendment and fertilizer will work so much better for your plants than store-bought chemical fertilizers.

What are worm castings?

There’s really no easy way to say this, worm castings are poop… but hold on, don’t check out just yet! It is sooo much more than that!

Our worms eat the fruit and vegetable matter we provide them and break it down into a rich and beneficial mixture of enzymes, beneficial bacteria, and even some of the vitamins and minerals from that fruit and vegetable matter in the form of castings. Unlike animal waste, there is no concern of dangerous bacteria. Castings are full of beneficial microbes, rich in nutrients, anti-fungal, increase soil and water retention for the health of your plants, improve soil structure, and is a natural pesticide to boot.

But How?

That all sounds great right? But how exactly is worm poop so beneficial for our plants?

Basically, as the worms eat and digest, their digestive tract actually breaks down the more complex nutrients into forms that are much easier for plants to absorb. Because these nutrients have been broken down already by the worms, the plants can make use of them more easily to promote their own growth and even increase fruit and vegetable yields. Worms even have special enzymes and bacteria that they use to break down all that plant matter that ends up in the castings and gets passed on to your plants and vegetables making them beautiful, delicious, and all naturally!

Is there a downside?

Not all worms are fed the same which can result in a lack in mineral, nutrient, and bio-diversity of the castings.

Our worms are fed a wide variety of fruits and veggies increasing their health and thus the health of their castings and therefore, your plants.

Why are Wyrm Castings better than other fertilizers?

  • All natural and much safer than chemical-based or animal manure

  • Wyrm castings are highly concentrated and can be mixed with water to feed plants or mixed into the soil in smaller amounts saving money and time

  • Chemical fertilizers can add acidity to soil, change the soil’s water retention and nutrient content, or cause damage to plants causing yellowing or reduced fruit and vegetable growth over time

  • Animal manure can contain bacteria that can be transferred to fruits and vegetables which can pose health risks to humans
